Do you need snow chains for Mount Buller?

Yes, you will need snow chains if you are driving to Mount Buller.
Ice + incline + poor grip = not good!
If you’re heading up to the snow this winter in your vehicle, you’ll need to get snow chains fitted around your tyres to safely get up the mountain.
You can easily hire wheel chains from towns nearby Mount Buller, so that they are fitted well before you get to the mountain. There are wheel chain rental stations in Mansfield and Mirimbah.
At any point passed Mirimbah, vehicles need snow chains. Wheel chains are needed to improve the grip of your car, as they bridge the gap between the wheel and your vehicle, and improve traction. Not only does this make it safer, but it’s much easier.
Plus, no one wants to get in trouble with the law while on holiday, so to brush up on your snow chain law…
Snow chains and the law
The law says that…
“If you drive to an alpine resort during the snow season, you must carry snow chains at all times. The snow chains must be properly fitted to the drive wheels of that vehicle. In the case of four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles, it can be fitted to the front or rear wheels of that vehicle.”
