Weather and snow conditions at Mount Buller
It gets very cold at Mount Buller during the snow season. Average winter temperatures can hover at just around freezing, and the mountain normally gets around 45-50 days of annual snowfall.
The snow might be cold, but the UV levels in Australia remain red-hot. Get yourself a bottle of sunscreen and make sure you’re getting yourself protected from the sun.
When you’re travelling around the park, you can hop on the free shuttle that runs around the park daily.

How to get to Mount Buller from Melbourne
- Driving
Driving yourself to Mount Buller is relatively easy. Whether you’re taking a hire car or you’ve got your vehicle, driving yourself means you can stop off along the way. Just remember your snow chains.
- Take a bus
Take the bus that leaves from Southern Cross and Tullamarine Airport.
- Join a tour
Or, hop onto a tour! Doing a tour to Mount Buller is a great way to experience this fun mountain without having to worry about snow chains.
Car parking at Mount Buller & park entry
Like all other snow resorts in Australia, Mount Buller does have an entry fee. There are a few different entry options, depending on whether you’re staying overnight or not.
For example, for a vehicle with 9 seats or fewer, you’d be paying $64. Overnight costs are $128.
If you’ve prepaid already, then you can print off your pass beforehand and display it on your dashboard. Don’t worry if you haven’t printed this when you arrive – Mount Buller’s gate staff can also print your pass for you.
Horse Hill Car Park is the biggest car park attached to the Mountain Resort. But if you go in the middle of peak season and it’s swamped, then you might be directed to a different overflow car park.

The funnest part of visiting Mount Buller is the skiing and snowboarding! To access the mountain, you need to get a B-TAG (which is your lift pass) to access the lifts that ascend the mountain and allow you time on the mountain.
Keeping your tag on you and away from your phone allows you to scan it and get on the lifts.

- Check what’s on – there’s always heaps of events happening, each weekend. Get to know the event programmes and check what’s going on while you’re there.
- Go mid-week: For fewer crowds, make sure you visit during the middle of the week. Skip the rush of the weekend, where it’s always busier.
